Violinist Lei Fang is the principal of the Music Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music, professor of violin and mentor for postgraduates of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, vice director of Violin Society of the Chinese Musicians Association, vice director of Chamber Music Society of the Chinese Musicians Association, director of the Violin Committee of the Shanghai Musicians Association, specialist who enjoys the State Council Special Allowance, 2003 Model Worker of Shanghai, leader of Violin Discipline of Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
In 1978 Lei Fang was admitted to the Music Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She graduated from Shanghai Conservatory Of Music in 1986 majoring in violin performance and violin pedagogy with Prof. Yu Lubin, Prof. Zhou Binyou and Prof. Zheng Shisheng. She took a half-year advanced study at Rotterdam Conservatory of Music in Holland in 1995.
Lei Fang has received the 5th Ou Yongxi Excellent Music Education Award by Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Culture of People’s Republic of China, the Outstanding Instructors Award by the Ministry of Culture of People’s Republic of China in 1998, 2001, 2006 and 2009, the Outstanding Teachers Award in 2005 and 2006 and the Teachers Award in 2010 by Council of Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation, the annual He Luting Award by Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the President Award of Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2001 for her remarkable achievements.
Lei Fang has been invited as the jury member of the 7th and 9th National Youth Violin Competition held by China's Ministry of Culture, the 1st National CCTV Piano & Violin Competition, the 3rd and 8th Golden Bell Award Violin Competition organized by the Chinese Musicians Association and the 8th International Competition for Young Violinists in Bucharest, Romania.
Fang Lei’s students have been winning numerous awards home and abroad. Her student Chen Jiafeng won the first prize for teenager group of the 9th Lublin International Competition for Young Violinists in Poland, and the Outstanding Talent Award by European Community, as well as the Special Honorary Award by Chopin Academy of Music. Chen Jiafeng has also won the third prize of the 4th Russian Novosibirsk International Competition for Young Violinists and the second prize for teenager group of the7th National Youth Violin Competition.
Ge Quanrong, another student of Lei Fang , won the second prize for teenager group in the 8th Bucharest International Competition for Young Violinists.
Her student Li Zeyu won the first prize for teenager group, as well as the Outstanding Performance Award of Chinese works of the 9th National Violin Competition.
Lei Fang’s student Gao Tianyang won the first prize for teenager group of the 12th International Competition for Young Violinists in Bucharest, Romania, the second prize for teenager group as well as Outstanding Performance Award of Chinese works in the 8th National Youth Violin Competition as well. Zhou Zihao got the sixth place; Shen Qianwen got the fourth place for youth group in the Eighth National Youth Violin Competition as well. Shen Qianwen has also won the second prize for youth group of the 12th International Competition for Young Violinists in Bucharest, Romania.
Lei Fang has published few theses that include The Technique of Violin Vibrato, Fundamentals of Violin Performing and recorded demonstration lessons for Kreutzer Violin Caprices.
